Human trafficking is one of the world’s largest criminal enterprises. The general and business aviation industry is not immune to this egregious crime.

Join GWBAA and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to learn how to recognize the indicators of human trafficking and its nexus to general and business aviation.

Our speaker Michael E. Camal, Senior Advisor, DHS Center for Countering Human Trafficking (CCHT), will share case examples and teach attendees how to report suspected trafficking to federal law enforcement.

This event is complimentary for all GWBAA members and local, state, and federal public employees but you must pre-register to attend. Lunch buffet is included.

About our Speaker

Michael E. Camal currently serves as a Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Blue Campaign, the Department’s national public awareness campaign to combat human trafficking. In this role, he leads the Blue Lightning Initiative (BLI) to address human trafficking within the aviation industry. Under his leadership, BLI has tripled in size and expanded its reach to airports and the general aviation industry. BLI has trained over 200,000 staff on trafficking indicators and how to report the crime.

Michael also supports the DHS Center for Countering Human Trafficking (CCHT), where he coordinates across 16 DHS Components to further support the Department’s domestic anti-trafficking mission. In collaboration with the U.S. Department of State, Michael engages foreign officials on public awareness, instituting a victim centered approach, and recommendations on how foreign governments can improve their laws and strategies for combating human trafficking.

Michael is originally from New Jersey and holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice from the University of Rhode Island.
