Join the Greater Washington Business Aviation Association as we hear from two of our industry leaders Sheryl Clarke and Jeff Wofford for this year's Virtual Safety Event.

Sheryl is the Director of Safety with JetLinx and will be presenting on "Safety Risk Management - The Right Discipline".

Jeff's presentation will focus on honing our skills and knowledge to improve safety in a presentation called "Top Gun Mentality".

FEATURED PRESENTER - Jeff Wofford, Chief Pilot & Director of Aviation, COMMSCOPE


Jeff Wofford is a Navy Veteran who earned his Private and Commercial Licenses and Instrument and Multi-engine ratings while in the Navy. Jeff received his CFI and CFII shortly after leaving the service and has been a professional pilot and flight instructor for 40 years. Jeff is currently the Chief Pilot and Director of Aviation for COMMSCOPE in Hickory, North Carolina. COMMSCOPE operates two Challenger 300s and a Learjet 31A. Jeff is also currently the Vice-Chairman of the NBAA Safety Committee, a member of the Bombardier Safety Standdown Council and has been a member of the FAA Safety Team for 12 years. A recipient of the 2013 Eugene Cernan Safety Standdown Award, Jeff is also the Director of the Hickory Aviation Museum.

  • 1982 Air Force Academy Grad 
  • 30 years in Aviation – 9.5 as a USAF pilot (1982-1991) – Flew T-37s, T-38s, and KC-135s; was an instructor on the T-37 and KC-135 
  • 23 years in Commercial Aviation starting in 1998
  • 17.5 at ExpressJet Airlines – the World’s largest Regional Carrier (Part 121) 
  • Flew the ATR for 6 months and flew 16 years on the Embraer EMB-145.  
  • Check airman on the EMB-145 for 14 years 
  • Transitioned from line flying only to combined duties in 2008 as Manager of the Flight Operations Manual, ASAP ERC, developed and implemented curriculum for training Check Airman and Company Threat and Error Management training 
  • Selected as the Manager of Flight Standard in 2013-2014 
  • Selected as Director of Safety (and accountable 119 Safety executive for the airline) in Sept. 2014 
  • Led the implementation of SMS under CFR Part 5 at ExpressJet Airlines 
  • Responsible for Regulatory Compliance, ASAP, IEP, and all Safety programs 
  • Responsible for IOSA and DoD audit preparation 
  • Selected as the Director of MX Quality in early 2015 which led to a combined role as       the Managing Director for Safety & Quality 
  • Led the CFR Part 5 implementation of SMS for ExpressJet 
  • Recruited in 2016 by United Airlines as a Managing Director for Express Operations and subsequently Airport Ramp Operations in May 2017 and remained there until May of 2019 
  • Supported the 10 Regional operators achieving SMS compliance by deadlines 
  • Managed Airport Operations IEP, ASAP, auditing and Regulatory Compliance and Ramp Safety program for 330 bases 
  • Recruited by Jet Linx Aviation (Part 135) as their Director of Safety in a rapid expansion period with 18 bases and growing 
  • Non-Aviation: 7 years in the private sector in project management and business management roles form 1991-1998 
  • Degrees: B.S., USAFA, MLA from TCU, Lean Mastery Certificate, Kennesaw University, Business Mgt Certificate from Kellogg Northwestern 
  • SMS Certified 
  • International Society of Safety Professionals Safety Manager 
  • Tony Kern Professionalism Award recipient 2020 
  • Vice Chair for the NATA Safety Committee 
  • Board member for Bombardier Safety Stand down 2021
